Chihan Eric Chyung pleaded guilty to murder this week in New London Superior Court for his role in the fatal shooting of his wife, Paige Bennett, in June 2009. Chyung is scheduled to be sentenced on March 26, when he is expected to receive a 25-year sentence.

Bennett, 46, was fatally shot in Norwich weeks after her wedding to Chyung, who has maintained that the gun accidentally went off when he was putting it in a suitcase. The shooting reportedly happened after the two had been arguing earlier in the day for several hours.

Chyung was convicted of murder and manslaughter in 2014, when he was sentenced to 40 years in prison.

In 2017, the Connecticut state Supreme Court unanimously overturned the ruling and ordered that he receive a retrial, because the jury should not have convicted him of both offenses.

Chyung was scheduled to be tried again on March 11 before he pleaded guilty.
